Scanner Not Detected: Print and Scan Are Separate

A multifunction printer can print normally while its scanner remains undiscovered. Confirm the exact model includes scanning and test the OS scan route before replacing the print driver.

Confirm scanner hardware

Look up the complete model; a print-only sibling may share most of the name. Check the device display for a scanner error, then attempt a local copy if the model offers it. A failed copy points toward the device rather than network discovery.

Check the computer route

Try the OS scan app or the manufacturer's official scan utility. For network scanning, confirm both devices are on the same trusted LAN. For USB, check the cable and port separately from the printer queue.

Install only what is missing

The maker's full software or scan package may be required for advanced functions. Use the exact model and OS version. Do not install a generic “scanner fixer” executable from an unrelated site.
