Windows11: stuck jobs and Print Spooler recovery. Check the exact model and use these steps only where the stated requirements apply.
Before you begin
Applies to: Printers that meet the stated connection and OS requirements. Authorized Windows11 troubleshooting on the affected PC, not an unattended script.
Confirm the exact model and current printer status before changing settings.
Step-by-step
- Open the printer in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, open its queue, and cancel stuck jobs.
- If needed, open services.msc and restart Print Spooler with authorization.
- Only if the queue remains stuck: stop Print Spooler first.
- With administrator permission, remove pending-job files inside %WINDIR%\System32\spool\PRINTERS. Do not delete the folder or unrelated files.
- Start Print Spooler and submit a fresh test page.
Check whether it worked
A new test page prints and the queue clears.
If it still fails
Check the selected device, connection and correct driver instead of repeatedly clearing the queue.
- Clearing this directory removes queued jobs for all printers using that local spooler.
- On a shared print server, coordinate with the administrator before affecting other users.
