Canon PIXMA TR8620 Ink: PGI-280 and CLI-281

Canon's US TR8620 specification separates PGI-280 pigment black from CLI-281 dye black, cyan, magenta and yellow. Standard, XL and XXL capacities are different choices within those ink families.

Five tanks, two roles

The PGI-280 PGBK tank is the pigment-black channel. CLI-281 covers dye black and the cyan, magenta and yellow channels. Buying a CLI-281 BK does not replace the PGI-280 pigment-black tank. Canon lists standard, XL and XXL volumes for these families on the exact TR8620 support page.

Select by the printer's message

Read the exact displayed support code or low-ink indication and identify the affected color. Verify the tank number and capacity on Canon's current US compatible-products list. The similarly named TR8620a is a separate model and should not inherit this page's compatibility verdict without its own source.
