Wi-Fi connected but computer cannot find the printer. Check the exact model and use these steps only where the stated requirements apply.
Before you begin
Applies to: Printers that meet the stated connection and OS requirements. Editorial diagnostic ordering built from official checks; not a manufacturer-certified universal repair.
Confirm the exact model and current printer status before changing settings.
Step-by-step
- Print the printer network report. If it has no valid connection, repair SSID/password/security first; driver reinstallation will not join the router.
- If it is connected, compare the printer network with the computer network. Check guest isolation, separate VLANs, VPN routing and authorized firewall rules.
- Confirm that the queue targets this printer rather than an old device/IP. A router change can invalidate an old queue.
- Open the printer local management page only when the model supports it and you are authorized; a failed ping alone does not prove the printer is disconnected.
- Try Windows discovery or a supported manual address method, then test a single page.
- If local reports print but every client fails, involve network support. If one client fails, investigate that client queue/driver.
Check whether it worked
The device is reachable and the target client prints successfully.
If it still fails
Use the exact model support page; record the full displayed message.
- Never collect Wi-Fi passwords on the website.
- Do not force a shared SSID to one band, switch the router to insecure encryption, or disable its firewall globally.
- A 5GHz laptop and 2.4GHz printer can communicate through the same non-isolated LAN.
