Wi-Fi Direct connects a device straight to a supported printer, while home Wi-Fi connects the printer to a router. They solve different problems.
Choose the connection
Use the home router when several household or office devices need the printer. Use Wi-Fi Direct only if the exact printer supports it and the manufacturer's instructions describe how to enable it.
Why discovery differs
A phone on the router's network may not see a printer operating only in direct mode. Conversely, joining the printer's direct SSID can temporarily change the phone's normal internet route. Return both devices to the intended network after setup.
Privacy
Do not share the printer's direct-mode password or home Wi-Fi credentials in a support request. Check the printer's local display and official manual instead.
