A printer driver is compatible only when the manufacturer or operating system lists the exact model and your OS version. A shared series name or successful download is not proof that installation will work.
Check three identifiers
Read the complete printer model and any suffix. In Windows System → About, check the Windows release and system type. On Mac, check the macOS version. Compare all three with the official download selector; do not rely on the browser's automatic OS guess alone.
Windows built-in versus full package
Windows Add device may provide basic printing. A maker's full package may add scan, fax or maintenance functions when the model supports them. If basic printing works, decide which extra feature is actually missing before replacing a driver.
Legacy and ARM limits
An older model may have only an in-OS route, and an ARM PC may not run a legacy x64 installer. Use the current official support page and Windows' built-in installation flow; never obtain an unknown executable from a mirror.
